All In

Jesus is Lord of it all

Deciding to follow Jesus is an “all-in” commitment. It is not Jesus plus something else. Not a little bit of Jesus here and a little bit of another “god” there. Jesus is not just one of many ingredients we combine to create our own recipe for happiness and fulfillment. He doesn’t want to be just a cross hanging from our neck or a tattoo on our arm. He wants to be the Lord of it all. Every part of our life!

In the Old Testament, the Israelites struggled with commitment. They claimed The Lord was their God, yet they worshiped the gods of the people around them. Despite all God had done for them, they didn’t think He was enough. The prophet Elijah placed before them a challenge that we all have to make. Either choose to follow the One True God or choose to follow something else. We cannot have it both ways.

How long will you waiver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him. – 1 Kings 18:21

There are a lot of “gods” fighting for control of our lives. Whether it is money, pride, success, or the gods of other religions that claim to compliment Jesus, we cannot surrender any area of our life to another “god”. We must cut down the Asherah poles and follow Jesus alone. We must make Jesus Lord of it all!

When we one day stand before our Creator, we will be judged based on what we did with Jesus. We will not get credit for just sampling Him.

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow is the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” – Matthew 7:13-14

“Not everyone who says to me ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 7:21

  1. This reminds me of the morning I was feeling especially cranky. I didn’t feel like being pleasant at all! So when I got dressed, I thought I’d just not wear my cross necklace. Then I could be unpleasant without being hypocritical, right? I realized that was IGNORANT thinking because you can’t just take a day off from being a Christian! 🙄
