If you spend any time on social media, you’ve probably heard all the conspiracy theories. The Earth is flat. We never went to the moon. Celebrities are being cloned. The government is already engineering the next pandemic. … The list goes on, and enough of them become true that it’s hard not to get sucked in. Not to mention, the rapid-fire news cycle filled with “news” that seems designed to illicit fear and command control.
Much like Christ-followers today, the prophet Isaiah lived in the midst of a godless culture with powerful enemies lurking on every side. God had sent Isaiah to warn people that their open rejection of Him would come with consequences, but Isaiah’s declaration of truth was mocked, and his warnings were ignored. People were so focused on the surrounding threats that they paid little attention to the only One who could protect them.
But God had a directive for Isaiah that is relatable to us today:
The Lord has given me a strong warning not to think like everyone else does. He said, “Don’t call everything a conspiracy, like they do, and don’t live in dread of what frightens them. Make the Lord of Heaven’s Armies holy in your life. He is the one you should fear, He is the one who should make you tremble. He will keep you safe.” (Isaiah 8:11-14)
God’s assignment for Isaiah was to keep on declaring His Word to those who would listen because there will always be a remnant of people who love God and want to obey Him.
If the latest conspiracy theory or news story starts to shake your faith, remember God’s message to Isaiah. Your mission (spread the Gospel) hasn’t changed, and you don’t need to be afraid of any of the world’s threats, because:
Once you put your faith in Jesus Christ, you are eternally invincible!
For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God. – 1 John 5:4-5
