Why can’t they see the truth?

Have you ever tried to share your faith with someone only to be laughed at?  Or maybe they weren’t rude enough to actually laugh at you, but they forced a smile while their eyes said, “Oh, she’s one of those people.” It can be so frustrating to try to have a conversation about Jesus with someone who does not believe. It seems that no matter how much sense it makes to you, they think it is total nonsense.

The Bible says we should not be surprised by this because the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing.  (1 Corinthians 1:18) Only when the Holy Spirit reveals the truth to them will they finally believe. Only when God removes the veil will it finally make sense. Only when God softens their heart will they finally see the truth that has been hidden since before time began. (1 Corinthians 2:7-10)

We are commanded to go and tell. (Matthew 28:19) Even though we will face opposition,  we must be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks where our hope comes from. (1 Peter 3:15) We need to be ready to plant seeds and ready to water them. But  only God can make them grow. (1 Corinthians 3:6)

We can’t argue someone into the Kingdom of God, but if we live a godly life and show love and patience to others, we will have opportunities to tell people about Jesus.  We need to be faithful to do our part and let God do his. And when it seems like someone will never see the truth, pray that God would remove their blinders and reveal the light of the gospel.

Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God. – 2 Corinthians 4:4
