If you want to enjoy life…

Self-help books. Motivational podcasts. Social media influencers. There is a seemingly insatiable market for people with tips on how to live your best life now. The fact that the market hasn’t dried up yet proves no one has discovered the magic formula.

Those of us who are followers of Christ know that there is only one book that will truly help you reach your potential since it was inspired by the One who created you. The pages of the Bible are full of inspirational stories, invaluable lessons, amazing promises, and unchanging precepts that when applied to your life will help you find the fulfillment your soul longs for.

One example of this is found in 1 Peter 3. Peter is reminding his readers of something that King David had penned centuries earlier after himself discovering the best way to live a satisfied life.

If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.

1 Peter 3:10-11 NLT

This passage of Scripture provides us with three steps we should take if we want an enjoyable life:

  1. Keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies. – The Bible has a lot to say about the kind of trouble our words can get us into. (James 3:1-12) We need to consider our words very carefully because once we open our mouth and let them out, we can’t take them back. The damage is done, and we will have to work hard at making amends for the careless words we speak. Jesus Himself warned us that we would give an account for every one of them. (Matthew 12:36)
  2. Turn away from evil and do good. – Evil is rampant. To turn away from evil and do good takes a conscious effort! Instead of going along with the crowd, we need to rise above it. There are hurting people everywhere. We must make the decision not to contribute to the hopelessness around us but instead to be a beacon of light, showing the love of Jesus to everyone we meet.
  3. Search for peace, and work to maintain it. – First and foremost, we need to have peace with God. Our sin separates us from Him and there is no peace with Him apart from Jesus. (Romans 5:1) Once we have peace with God, we must work to have peace with others while we do the work of reconciliation that God has called us to. (2 Corinthians 5:19-20)

To sum it up: When we choose to be a blessing to others, we will be blessed! (1 Peter 3:9)

The Bible is a treasure trove of soul-satisfying life advice. When you read it and apply the principles to the way you live, you can know that you are right where God wants you to be. Only in His will can you be confident that you’re living the life you were created to live.

  1. I love your list of truths that are promises given to believers from God. He definitely is a promise keeper. My desire is to live a successful and prosperous life and that can only be granted by God, the giver of life.💕
