Hamster Wheel

Life is crazy! We all have so much to do. Go to work. Bring work home. Clean the house. Make dinner. Help the kids with homework. Bring the kids here and there. Walk the dog. Tuck the family in.

*sleep* *wake* *repeat*

It makes me think of a hamster wheel. Have you ever watched a hamster on one of those things? They run at full speed and look like they think they’re getting somewhere. Only to eventually discover they haven’t moved at all.

The Bible does talk about work and about not being idle. “If you don’t work, you don’t eat.” (2 Thessalonians 3:10) There’s a whole section that talks about the busy life of a wife. (Proverbs 31:10-31) We are busy and life is crazy, but in the midst of it all, there’s some important things to remember.

1 – Don’t work so hard trying to please people. Keep your eyes on God!

Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. – Ephesians 6:7

2 – Know that even when your good work goes unnoticed by people, God notices. And if you’re working for Him, there will be results somewhere.

…But my work seems so useless! I have spent my strength for nothing and to no purpose. Yet I leave it all in the Lord’s hand; I will trust God for my reward. – Isaiah 49:4

3 – Rest! Even God did that.

On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested. – Genesis 2:2

Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” – Mark 6:31

4 – Find rest in quiet moments with Jesus every day and you will feel refreshed.

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
