Complacency

“For simpletons turn away from me—to death. Fools are destroyed by their own complacency. But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.” (Proverbs 1:32, 33 NLT)

Complacency: a feeling of quiet pleasure or security, often while unaware of some potential danger, defect, or the like; self-satisfaction or smug satisfaction with an existing situation, condition, etc.

The Bible says fools are destroyed by their own complacency, but that those that listen to the Word of God will live in peace. The Lord warns that eventually people who seem to care less will suddenly begin to care. (Isaiah 32:10)

The longer The Lord waits, the more complacent people get. And the more complacent people get, the uglier the world becomes. Many have grown secure in the fact that The Lord’s return has not yet come. Many are completely satisfied with their stand that there is no God, or if there is – it’s not Jesus.

But Like I tell my children. If you persist to make the wrong choice, there will be a consequence. It might not happen right away, but it will happen eventually. In some cases people may not fully see the consequence of their denial of Christ and there battle against the One True God until the day that their eternal destination is realized. And eternity is a really long time to live with the consequence of the wrong choice.

The Lord has spoke of his coming judgement throughout history, and every day Christ’s return draws nearer. So we can either choose to live complacently, satisfied with our existing condition, falsely secure in the fact that when we awoke this morning – the world was still spinning. Or we can realize that there’s only one Word that has stood true throughout time. That there is only one way to eternal salvation that really makes sense. That battling against the Almighty God and his plan for our redemption is a losing battle with eternal consequences.

I choose Jesus!

“God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him. For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead.” (Acts 17:30, 31 NLT)

The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment. Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live, (2 Peter

But God says to the wicked: “Why bother reciting my decrees and pretending to obey my covenant? For you refuse my discipline and treat my words like trash. When you see thieves, you approve of them, and you spend your time with adulterers. Your mouth is filled with wickedness, and your tongue is full of lies. You sit around and slander your brother— your own mother’s son. While you did all this, I remained silent, and you thought I didn’t care. But now I will rebuke you, listing all my charges against you. (Psalms 50:16-21 NLT)

For they brag about their evil desires; they praise the greedy and curse the Lord. The wicked are too proud to seek God. They seem to think that God is dead. Yet they succeed in everything they do. They do not see your punishment awaiting them. They sneer at all their enemies. They think, “Nothing bad will ever happen to us! We will be free of trouble forever!” (Psalms 10:3-6 NLT)

I also noticed that under the sun there is evil in the courtroom. Yes, even the courts of law are corrupt! I said to myself, “In due season God will judge everyone, both good and bad, for all their deeds.” (Ecclesiastes 3:16, 17 NLT)

“I will search with lanterns in Jerusalem’s darkest corners to punish those who sit complacent in their sins. They think the Lord will do nothing to them, either good or bad. (Zephaniah 1:12 NLT)
