Even as I sit here with my Bible open, I am saddened by the evil and sickness that is rampant in our world today. It’s heartbreaking and exhausting and hard not to give in to fear and despair. The enemy’s attacks are on overdrive because he knows his days are numbered. Sometimes it feels like victory is out of reach.
No matter how powerful the evil around us may seem, we must never forget that God is infinitely more powerful. He has not lost control and He never will. Everything is moving in its intended direction and no matter how rough things may seem, as Christ-followers we are on the winning team.
Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. – 1 John 4:4 ESV (emphasis mine)
Notice the Bible says we have overcome. Not we might overcome. Not even we will overcome. But we already have overcome!
We are on the winning team!
Imagine for a moment that you have come back from the future, and you know who is going to win the Super Bowl. You hop on a plane to Las Vegas and bet every dollar you have on that team. People think you are crazy because your team has the odds stacked against it. They lost their superstar to injury. Their head coach just quit. And there is a cloud of scandal surrounding them. Things don’t get better on game day. More injuries. Bad weather. Equipment malfunctions. One thing after another goes wrong and one glance at the scoreboard does not instill confidence. Even though it looks bad, you’re not worried because you know the outcome.
Our victory in Christ is a done deal. A foregone conclusion. A guarantee. Regardless of the adversities that may come our way and no matter what the scoreboard may say right now, when the game ends, we will be in the victory parade.
Live with confidence!
How different would your life be if you bet everything you have on that promise? How would you handle your strongholds and setbacks if you knew they had no power over you? How would you look at your sickness and struggles if you knew they were not going to beat you? How much peace and joy would you have if you lived in victory?
Back to our Super Bowl analogy. A steady stream of adversities can be demoralizing to a team and cause the confidence to deflate. In that state, they end up contributing to their own defeat. But when a team plays with confidence in their victory, the direction of the game starts to change. As they rise above the challenges, they gain more confidence and play like champions.
Get out there and play like a champion! Live all-in for Jesus with confidence because your victory is guaranteed.
