Do you ever wonder if you matter? If you have value despite your flaws? If there is an eternal purpose for your life? The Apostle Paul was writing to the Christians in Rome to help them understand the transformation that happened when they were saved by God’s grace. They had received an unshakeable eternal position and the same transformation happens to each of us when we trust in Jesus for salvation.
And you are included among those Gentiles who have been called to belong to Jesus Christ. I am writing to all of you in Rome who are loved by God and are called to be His own holy people. May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. – Romans 1:6-7 NLT
Once you are redeemed by Jesus, you are reconciled to God. No matter what your current situation is, the following remains true about your eternal position:
You belong to Christ.
Belonging matters. We long to be accepted and Jesus stands with open arms ready to accept anyone who turns to Him. Once you belong to Christ you will always be His. Your acceptance has nothing to do with who you are or what you do. It has everything to do with His sacrifice. In Christ, your eternity is secure.
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and He is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand.– John 10:28-29 NLT
You are loved by God.
Almighty God created you in His image. He chose you for salvation, adopted you as His child, and has a plan and a purpose for your life. He always sees you. He always hears you. He knows what you need before you even ask. He is your provider, your protector, and your healer. Nothing can separate you from His love. His love is wide, long, high, and deep – beyond comprehension. He loves you so much that He gave His Son for your Salvation and His Spirit for your sanctification. He loves you regardless of and despite who you are and what you’ve done. His love is unfailing.
You are called to be a saint.
The appropriate response to God’s amazing love is to be set apart for Him. To be filled by His Spirit on a daily and even moment by moment basis so you can live a life that glorifies Him. Spend time in prayer and in His Word so you can see His purpose and His plan and then participate in it. Be His representative as the salt and light of the earth until Christ returns. Know God and make Him known.
Once you realize who you are in Christ, never let the enemy convince you otherwise. Stay focused on this truth: Your eternal position is unshakeable regardless of your current situation. You are a child of God!
What is your eternal position? Have you been redeemed by Jesus? If not, God’s grace is available to you at this very moment. Acknowledge you’re a sinner and that you can’t save yourself. Believe that Jesus suffered the consequences for your sin on the cross to redeem you from death. Ask Him to come into your life and be your Savior and your Lord.
