In all things we are more than conquerors through [Christ] who loved us. – Romans 8:37
“More than conquerors!” Let that thought soak in. When I think of the word “conqueror”, I think of the ultimate destroyer. The mighty leader that overtakes all of their enemies without compare. The one that is always victorious. The conqueror’s win is pretty much a guarantee. And the Bible tells us that through Christ, we are more than conquerors. So if we know we are going to be victorious, who and what should we expect to have victory over?
Romans 8 is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible full of amazing truths that are critical to grab hold of. I encourage you to read it for yourself, but let me highlight some of the key points.
First of all, there is no condemnation for those of us that have surrendered our life to Jesus. God’s requirement of righteousness was met for us when all of our sin was covered by the blood of Christ. We are no longer subject to death because of our sin. We receive life because of our righteousness. We cannot be condemned!
Secondly, once we are led by the Spirit of God, we become children of God. The Bible says that we can come to God as our “Abba, Father”, which basically means “daddy”. We have the perfect Father that will always have our back!
We are also ensured that our current suffering is nothing compared to the amazing things God has prepared for us. We have the Holy Spirit within us that can cry out to God for us when we don’t even know what to cry out to God for. The holiest intercession! And because of this we can know that all things are working out for our ultimate good. Nothing will end in disaster. We are guaranteed a happy ending!
This is where the conquerors part comes in. Knowing all of this. That you are declared righteous in God’s sight by the blood of Jesus. That he considers you his very own child. That he is at work in your life, guaranteeing that everything will end up good. Knowing all of this, we must acknowledge that “If God is for us, who can be against us?”
Nothing can separate us from the love of Jesus. Not trouble. Not hardship. Not persecution. Not even famine, nakedness, danger or the sword. Nothing!! It is over exactly all of these things that we are more than conquerors!
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.- Romans 8:39 NIV
