Very early this morning I awoke singing this song in my head. (Fortunately I have a beautiful voice… as long as it stays in my head.)
“One day I’ll stand before You
And look back on the life I’ve lived
I can’t wait to enjoy the view
And see how all the pieces fit”
– Casting Crowns, “You’re Already There”
If we really stop to think about the fact that God is in control of every detail of our life, fitting them all together like a jigsaw puzzle, we could find tremendous comfort and hope. His perspective of the circumstances in our life takes into consideration all of time, not just one particular moment. We don’t have that perspective … yet. And when we’re faced with circumstances that are painful, it is hard to understand how it could ever look different. But one day, when we join our Savior in the heavenly home he’s prepared for us, we’ll get to take a look back and see it all before us as one beautifully completed puzzle. We will see all of the pieces of our life fit together, even the ones that we were sure weren’t going to fit anywhere. All of them bringing us to that very moment in His presence. The moment when our eternity with no pain, no sadness, no sickness begins. And it will all suddenly be worth it.
So when we’re faced with circumstances we don’t understand, the “Why?” must wait until we get to see the completed puzzle in heaven. The question we need to be asking God while we’re still on this earth is: “What?” — “What can I do with this to glorify you?” That is when we will receive the peace of God and show the rest of the world what they’re missing.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28 NIV)
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 NLT)
He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!”…(Revelation 21:4-5 NLT)
