They say it takes 21-days to form a habit, and it’s been a little over a month since you made your New Year’s resolution. You’ve probably come up against some challenges that tempted you to give up. Maybe the results you’re looking for haven’t come as quickly as you’d hoped. But are you still sticking with it?
If you’re a Christ-follower hopefully you didn’t set out to accomplish your goals without depending on the power of the Holy Spirit. From the moment we surrender our lives to Jesus, we receive a new power that helps us do life in this world. In our own strength, we are no match for the temptations that we come up against. Whatever stronghold we resolve to overcome can only be truly conquered with the power of the Holy Spirit.
Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort? – Galatians 3:3
If you’re still hanging in there with your New Year’s Resolutions, congratulations! But be sure that you daily seek God’s strength. Don’t get too confident in your own power and think that any victory you have apart from Him will last. And if you’ve given up on your goals, could it be because you forgot where the strength to achieve them comes from? If so, start again! Ask God to empower you to make the positive changes you want to make in your life so that you can live a life that glorifies Him.
…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. – Philippians 1:6
