“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.” – Matthew 24:42
Jesus is coming back. And even though it may seem like it’s taking a long time, God has his own time table. The fact that he’s left us on earth to see another day just means there’s still work left to be done. There’s still someone that needs to hear the gospel and come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. – 2 Peter 3:9-10
Jesus himself told of his return. He gave a terrifying prediction of how oblivious so many people will be when he suddenly returns like a thief in the night.
“As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be at the mill; one will be taken and the other left.
Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” – Matthew 24:37-44
You might believe this is true, but don’t give it much thought as you go through your day-to-day life. You might think it’s going to happen “someday” – but not in your life time. Or you might not even believe that it’s going to happen at all. I suppose if you’re right then you have nothing to worry about. But what if you’re wrong?!?
Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Today is the day of Salvation! (2 Corinthians 6:2) God loves you so much that he sent his Son to die in your place. To pay the price for your sins. You must accept the fact that you cannot save yourself. Turn away from the way you have been doing things and make Jesus the Lord of your life. Don’t try to fix your life first, because you will not be able to. When you give your life to Jesus, he gives you the Holy Spirit and God begins his work in you which he has promised to complete. (Philippians 1:6) A saved life is a changed life!
Do it now! Tell God that you know you are a sinner and that you know that you cannot save yourself. Ask him to forgive you and to be your Lord and Savior. Then you can know that you have eternal life. (1 John 5:13) If you are reading this, God is giving you the opportunity to repent. Don’t blow it off and allow your heart to be hardened. Don’t wait until it’s too late and you suddenly realize how wrong you were. Do it now!
Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. – 1 John 5:10-11
