There is no shortage of self-help books on how to be prosperous and successful. Clearly it is something people long for. It’s also something that can lead to endless searching when you’re not even sure what it will look like when you get there. The search for success is a lot more about the process than the final result. As a Christ follower, the final result is already waiting for us when we enter eternity, but the process is life-long. The Bible sums up the best approach to Godly success in one verse that is packed full of amazing truth.
“Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” – Joshua 1:8
There you have it! A three-step plan to be prosperous and successful God’s way!
1. Study the Bible! – In Joshua’s day, the Book of the Law was read aloud. To be prosperous and successful for God, we need to read the Bible and we need to hear godly teachers teach us about the Bible.
2. Make it personal! – Then we must take what we’ve read or learned about in the Word of God and meditate on it. Pray for the Holy Spirit to show us how to apply it to our life.
3. Apply it! – It is only by being in the Word daily that we can take it from study to application and live it out!
The world has many different definitions of success and many more ways to get there. But it is only when you understand that God’s plan and purpose for your life far surpasses any worldly success you might achieve that you will be able to stop the never-ending search for meaning. It is only when you realize that you can’t accomplish greatness on your own and finally surrender your life to Jesus that you will have the peace in knowing that your story is already written, and you are guaranteed the happiest ending of all – eternity with God!
