I recently heard of some troubling statements made by a popular pastor. Admittedly, I have not listened to the full messages, but I can’t imagine any context in which these statements would be true. This pastor spoke of unhitching from the Old Testament and untethering from the inspiration, infallibility, and authority of the Bible. Those are some scary statements to make from a pulpit.
Apostasy is running rampant, and many popular preachers are caving to the culture and taking blind followers with them.
This is just another reminder that as Christ-followers, we must regularly read the Word of God for ourselves. The only way we will discern truth from error is to be tethered to the truth at all times.
There is nothing the enemy would like more than to see the Word of God diminish in value. But the Word of God is the sword we fight the battle with. When Jesus was in the wilderness being tempted by the devil, He held up the authority of the Word of God to gain victory. (Side note: He was quoting from the Old Testament.)
It is of critical importance that Christ-followers remain tethered to the truth of the Word of God. All of it! Every. Last. Word!
Jesus prayed this for us: “Make them holy by Your truth; teach them Your word, which is truth.”
The entire gospel of Jesus Christ is eternally tethered to the Word of God, from front to back, and not one jot or one tittle of the Word of God will ever pass away, even if people “unhitch” from it.
“Heaven and earth will pass away but My words will not pass away.” – Matthew 24:35
