Keep your head up

But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high. (Psalms 3:3 NLT)

It can be so easy to let the circumstances of life bring you down. Sometimes it may seem that every day brings with it something new to complain about. The weather, a leaky faucet, your job, a nagging pain that won’t go away, and so on. Sometimes the annoyances of life seem to keep piling up until you suddenly feel surrounded by them. It seems like every time you open your mouth, you hear yourself complaining. And you wonder how you turned into that person.

Usually it boils down to perspective. It may seem like an over used expression, but in most cases; “It could be worse.” It’s amazing how just turning your focus off of all the things wrong in your life and focusing instead on all of the good things you’ve got going can change your whole frame of mind. Instead of fixating on how much worse off you are than that person, take a look at how much better off you are than so many others.

Remember who your God is. The Almighty Creator of heaven and earth. I love the saying – “Instead of telling God how big your problem is, tell the problem how big your God is!” He can handle it if we let him.

Try it and see what happens. Pray for God’s will in the situation. Recognize the role you may have in the outcome. And instead of complaining about the bummers in life, rejoice in the blessings!

Have faith that if for some reason God decides not to remove the problem, he will definitely use it. (Romans 8:28) And even if we can’t understand it now – someday he will show us what it was all about.

These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. (1 Peter 1:7 NLT)
