Wouldn’t it be amazing to have it said of you that the Lord was with you and that you were successful in whatever you undertook?! I don’t know about you, but if I thought that was possible, I would want to know how to make it happen. There was a King in the Old Testament, King Hezekiah, that had these very words spoken of him. (2 Kings 18:7). Apparently, there was no one like him among all the kings of Judah. He was clearly doing something right. So, what was it? What was so special about King Hezekiah that the Lord blessed him with this kind of success?
The Bible points out that King Hezekiah did three very important things. He trusted in the Lord. He held fast to the Lord. And he obeyed the Lord. Hezekiah made his relationship with the Lord the most important thing in his life. He was “all in” for God and his idea of success wasn’t about his own personal success, but about that which would bring glory to God. His heart was in sync with the Lord and his desire was to please Him. And God granted him success!
There is a passage in Psalms that talks about this. It is a promise that if misinterpreted could give someone the idea that God is a personal vending machine, ready to dispense whatever we want. But this verse demonstrates exactly what Hezekiah knew to be true.
Take delight in the Lord and He will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you. – Psalm 37:3-4
Take delight in the Lord. Commit everything you do to Him. Trust Him. That is when you will be granted the desires of your heart. And you know why? Because when you are that close to God, your heart will only want what He wants. You won’t find yourself longing for things that won’t fulfill God’s purpose for you. You will only long for things that make you more like Jesus and prepare you for eternity. And that’s exactly what God wants. He wants you to get with the program (His program) so that He can grant you success. How wonderful to be so in step with God that He grants you success.
