God’s amazing love

Close your eyes for a moment and recall a time when you felt an overwhelming feeling of love. Maybe it was the birth of a child (your own, a niece or nephew). Maybe it was the moment you exchanged vows with your spouse. Maybe it was when you faced losing someone close to you and you sat by their side. Recall how at that moment you knew you would do anything for them – and you couldn’t imagine your life without them. That’s a great love…a great human love.

The Bible says God is love. It’s part of who he is — and his love for you goes beyond the greatest love you could even imagine. How often do you think about that? There are so many amazing things to discover in the Word of God, and that’s why I’m so thoroughly enjoying my journey with him. And we can’t lose sight of the whole reason for it all.

It is because of God’s great love for you that he created you in his image. It is because of God’s great love for you that he created the earth in all of its splendor for you to enjoy. It is because of God’s great love for you that he gave you a longing for him. It is because of God’s great love for you that he sent his Son to suffer and die for your sins…your mistakes. And it is because of God’s great love for you that he raised Jesus from the grave, gave him victory over death, and then offered that victory to you as a free gift. The ultimate gift as a demonstration of the ultimate love.

Don’t ever lose sight of the “hugeness” of God’s love. Realize that whatever the greatest example of human love you can imagine may be…God’s love is immensely greater, “…too great to understand.” (Ephesians 3:19)

Regularly take a moment to rest in that. Rest assured that there is nothing that can change that. And never lose sight of God’s amazing love for you!

And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. (Ephesians 3:18, 19 NLT)

“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16 NLT)

But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved.) (Ephesians 2:4-5)

This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. (1 John 4:10 NLT)

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38, 39 NLT)

For your unfailing love is as high as the heavens. Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. (Psalms 57:10 NLT)

Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. (Ephesians 1:4 NLT)
