Oh Lord, I give my life to you. Psalm 25:1
Throughout the Bible, God’s people are repeatedly reminded to surrender their lives to God. God knows that we will all surrender to something. From the moment Eve surrendered to the serpent and to the temptation to satisfy the desires of her flesh, mankind has been surrendering to countless things that attract our eyes.
The Bible says that “the woman was convinced” and it didn’t take much. Satan planted a little seed of doubt. “Did God really say?” The woman’s flesh was tempted by what the fruit had to offer. It was “pleasing and desirable”. And just like that, mankind’s surrender to sin was born. (Genesis 3:5, 6)
And this is why God gives us reminder after reminder to surrender to him instead. And once we make the decision to surrender, God will strengthen our hearts (2 Chronicles 16:9) and every step we take in his direction will be guided by him.
“So fear the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly… (Joshua 24:14 NLT)
“Give in to God, come to terms with him and everything will turn out just fine. (Job 22:21 MSG)
Do not be stubborn…but submit yourselves to the Lord. (2 Chronicles 30:8 NLT)
This is a sure thing: If we die with him, we’ll live with him; If we stick it out with him, we’ll rule with him… (2 Timothy 2:11, 12 MSG)
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. (James 4:7, 8 NIV)
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. (Romans 12:1 MSG)
As followers of Christ, children of God and people entrusted with the promise of salvation, the first thing we should do every morning is surrender to God.
It could start today with this simple prayer: Oh Lord, I give my life to you. Psalm 25:1
