Sometimes during difficult times, we forget that God has promised to work all things out for our ultimate good and His glory. No matter how difficult things may be, believe God! He is still at work and His promises still stand.
God’s covenant with Israel was established long before Moses showed up to lead them out of captivity. Even while they remained in slavery, God’s promises had not changed.
I am Yahweh…
I will deliver you…
I will redeem you…
I will take you as My people and I will be your God.
I will bring you to the land that I swore to give Abraham, Isaac & Jacob.
Exodus 6:6-8 CSB
Moses tried to remind the people, but they were discouraged and didn’t want to hear it.
When we’re stuck in a cycle of defeat and despair, it is hard to imagine deliverance being a reality. That is how the Israelites felt at this point of the story. They were existing in their captivity when Moses came along and started making bold claims about freedom and a promised land that frankly seemed too good to be true. At first, they may have had a glimmer of hope, but when things seemed to get worse, they didn’t want to hear any more from Moses, or from God.
They needed to hear God and believe God!
The worse thing we can do when we feel discouraged is tune God out. If we don’t continue to meditate on God’s truth, the enemy’s lies will tighten our chains and cause us to lose hope.
What the Israelites needed to do was hear God’s word and heed God’s word. They needed to believe what He said and put their hope in His promises even if the current situation seemed bleak.
Lord, thank You that no matter what our current situation is, you are working out Your plan. You are the God of deliverance. My ultimate deliverance became reality when Jesus died for me and eternal deliverance is the glorious outcome I am guaranteed. Thank You for all the ways You rescue and redeem me along the way. In Jesus’ name, amen.
But You, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, and the One who lifts up my head…Rise up, Lord! Save me, my God! – Psalm 3:3 & 7
