Good things in…good things out

Immoral messages and images abound in the world today. Not even the “family hour” of evening T.V. is safe anymore. To even imagine how much worse it could get is scary. The “slippery slope” of blurred boundaries suddenly became a “black diamond” hill that we’re careening down … not sure how to stop. To think that in my parent’s generation even married couples had separate twin beds on television. And if a woman’s belly button had been exposed, there would have been an uproar. The same demoralization has occurred in music, in print, on the computer, etc.

As Christians, what should be our response? Turn it off! Look away! Plug our ears! Seek out the good and avoid the evil. The more lenient we become with our own boundaries, the more blurred they will become. And before we know it, we’ll find ourselves at the bottom of the mountain in a jumbled mess because we didn’t stop in time.

Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. (Colossians 3:2 NLT)

So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires…(Colossians 3:5 NLT)

Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. (Colossians 3:10 NLT)

…Do not share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure. (1 Timothy 5:22 NLT)

Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God. (2 Corinthians 7:1 NLT)

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. (James 4:7, 8 NLT)
