The Eternal Spiritual Battle

As Revelation continues, we get a history lesson about the eternal battle between good and evil. A battle that has been brewing ever since Satan deceived Adam and Eve in the garden and heard the warning from God that one day he would be destroyed. From that moment on, God’s people have been Satan’s target. He spent the time up until the birth of Christ trying to sabotage God’s plan by sabotaging God’s people. He spent the time between Christ’s birth and His crucifixion trying to get Jesus to abandon God’s plan. He celebrated at the cross and panicked at the empty grave. And ever since that day, he has set his sights on everyone who keeps God’s commands and believes in Jesus Christ as the Messiah. (Revelation 12:17)

At some point, an angelic war breaks out in heaven and Satan is defeated. The Bible says that Satan “could not prevail”. (Revelation 12:8) It is not possible! His destruction was foretold in the garden and it doesn’t matter what forces he amasses; he is going down!

Today we each fight our own spiritual battles. If we’ve made Jesus our Lord and Savior, then we have made the devil our enemy. The battles we are fighting on earth are just precursors to the final heavenly battle where Satan will see his eternal doom come to pass. But we do not need to fear because God has promised to protect us from the devil’s schemes. No matter what happens, we remain spiritually secure even if we face physical danger. Although Satan comes before God to slander us, Jesus stands before God to defend us. God has given us everything we need to fight the battle; all we need to do is boldly take up arms.

Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. – Ephesians 6:10-12

The people of God are guaranteed victory! Satan is destined for destruction! As the day of his final defeat approaches, he will take his wrath out on the earth and what’s left of its inhabitants. God’s people will not be there. We will be rejoicing in heaven with our Savior. But those left behind will experience the great fury of someone with nothing left to lose. (Revelation 12:12)

You do not have to be on the losing side! Jesus died for you and if you make Him your Lord and Savior, you will be a heavenly spectator who is rejoicing, not an earthly pawn who is suffering.

Jesus defends us

THE SALVATION PLAN:

  1. God created you! (Psalm 139:13-16) He loves you and He wants to have a personal relationship with you! (John 3:16)
  2. Everyone has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) Your sin makes it impossible for you to be in a personal relationship with the Holy God. (Isaiah 59:2)
  3. Because God loves you, He sent His one and only Son, Jesus, to pay the price for your sin. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, you can have His righteousness in place of your sin. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
  4. The only thing you need to do is admit that you are a sinner in need of a Savior, believe that Jesus is the only one that can save you and ask Him to be your Savior and the Lord of your life. (Romans 10:9-10)v
