Don’t panic! Turn to God!

What is your first response when you’re in trouble? I’ll admit mine is usually to panic! I start trying to figure out how I can get out of the mess I’m in. I start searching for something or someone that can help me out. Like someone drowning in a raging sea, I thrash around, trying to keep my head above water, and it doesn’t work!

People have different ways of dealing with trials in their life. Some turn to drugs or alcohol to numb the pain. Some ignore the problems and hope they will go away. Some try to use money or power to overcome them. But none of these methods give us the peace that only God can provide.

This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it.” – Isaiah 30:15 NLT

In the midst of our panic and our futile attempts to save ourselves, God is right there with outstretched arms waiting for us to turn to Him. How crazy would it be if you were drowning and right next to you was a lifesaving buoy that you refused to grab hold of? That is exactly what we do when we fail to turn to God for help.

So the Lord must wait for you to come to him so he can show you His love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for His help. – Isaiah 30:18 NLT

God is waiting for you to come to Him so that He can show you His love and compassion. Do not let panic be your first response. Do not depend on worldly solutions that will ultimately destroy you. Turn to God and let Him guide you. He will show you the way to go.

Your own ears will hear Him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” – Isaiah 30:21 NLT

When you finally realize how ineffective the frantic attempts to solve your problems on your own have been, you will be able to rest in the Lord and trust Him for the outcome. Then you can get rid of the useless idols you’ve been depending on and live in victory!

Then you will destroy all your silver idols and your precious gold images. You will throw them out like filthy rags, saying to them, “Good riddance!” – Isaiah 30:22 NLT
