The Bible talks a lot about “searching” for God.
Search for the Lord and for his strength; continually seek him. (Psalms 105:4 NLT)
All night long I search for you; in the morning I earnestly seek for God. (Isaiah 26:9 NLT)
O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. (Psalms 63:1 NLT)
Appeals to search for God are often accompanied with promises for those that do.
Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you. (Psalms 9:10 NLT)
Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts. (Psalms 119:2 NLT)
The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him. (Lamentations 3:25 NLT)
But may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness in you. May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, “God is great!” (Psalms 70:4 NLT)
So I wondered how we actually go about searching for God. It’s not as though he’s lost and we need to find him. He’s exactly where he’s always been and where he always will be.
One of the dictionary definitions of “search” is: “To explore or examine in order to discover.” – That’s it! That’s exactly what “searching” for God is. Its exploration and discovery! And each day that we spend exploring or examining who God is through time spent in the Bible, or in prayer or worship, we are blessed to discover more and more about who he is and about who we are in him. Then the promises made to those who search for him become more and more real to us each day.
Don’t let a day go by without exploration and discovery. Don’t ever stop searching for God.
