So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27 NLT)
Pretty amazing the plans God had for us from the moment he created mankind. In his image. What does that mean? What is his image?
He answered that question when he came to earth in the flesh and blood body of the Son, Jesus Christ. Immanuel (God with us). (Matthew 1:23)
It was almost like he said: “Before I offer up the only sacrifice that will take away the sins of the world, let me show you an example of what I created you to be like. Let me give you a glimpse of my image.”
Christ is the visible image of the invisible God…For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, (Colossians 1:15, 19 NLT)
Of course, Jesus was fully man, yet also fully God, (Colossians 2:9) – so he alone was able to remain sinless. But once we accept Jesus as our personal Savior, the Holy Spirit takes up residence in us (1 Corinthians 6:19) and begins to work in us to make us more and more Christ-like.
So what is Jesus like? Amazing, of course. But to know the answer, you just need to read one if his “biographies” – the gospels. Written by some of his closest friends. (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John).
He is compassionate, loving, kind and humble. He is obedient, faithful, gracious and forgiving. He is patient, truthful, merciful and giving. He is all this and so much more.
And the most amazing thing of all is that he wants to have a personal relationship with you! He wants to be your Savior…your friend. And once you accept his invitation – you will have your very own opportunity to get to know him better each day.
For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God. (Romans 5:10, 11 NLT)
