If you’re familiar with any of the well-known Bible characters, you’ve probably noticed that God uses flawed people despite their shortcomings. Moses struggled with self-doubt and was convinced God had picked the wrong guy. Jonah didn’t like his assignment, so he tried to run and hide. Peter was impetuous. Paul had a chronic ailment. Timothy was young. The list goes on. Yet, every one of them was used by God.
I don’t know about you, but I often wonder how or why God would use me. There are plenty of smarter, more disciplined, and more confident people than me. There are plenty of people with better resources and more time. Plenty of people who seem to have it all figured out. (I do not!) These feelings of inadequacy threaten to sideline me until I remind myself that if God created me with a special purpose (which He did), then He will surely work it all out.
When the enemy tries to disrupt you with doubt, fear, and feelings of inadequacy, stand firm and remind him (and yourself) of what God says about you.
You are a child of God, fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:13-14).
Nothing can ever separate you from the Father’s love (Romans 8:38-39).
You are a masterpiece, given new life in Christ Jesus so you can do the good works planned for you long ago (Ephesians 2:10).
You have been gifted with special talents and opportunities to steward wisely (1 Peter 4:10).
It is not your strength that will accomplish any of it, but God’s (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)!
You can be faithful even when you feel flawed because God is rooting for you. He doesn’t define “success” the same way the world does. He delights in watching you explore your gifts and use them for His glory. The process will grow you regardless of the outcome, and you can trust God with both.
