Here we are again struggling with the news of another senseless tragedy that claimed the lives of too many innocent young children, and we can’t help but ask, “Why?!” Why do we keep seeing so much hatred and death? How does this level of evil exist?! Sure, there has always been evil, but we used to be able to trust in the basic decency of people, didn’t we?
We should not be surprised. We were warned this would happen.
Two thousand years ago, Jesus was asked by His disciples what would signal His return and the end of the age, and He said that among other things, “Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold.”
He also said those days would be like it was in Noah’s day, and in Noah’s day: The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and He saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil.
Then judgment came!
Judgment is coming again. God will not allow evil to go unchecked forever. In the meantime, depending on your current relationship with Jesus Christ, you must do one of two things:
A – If you have not surrendered your life to Jesus yet, don’t wait another moment. The Bible makes it clear the only way to escape God’s judgment is to be covered in Christ’s righteousness. Apart from Christ, you are just a sinner like everyone else.
B – If you are a Christ-follower, you are the salt and light of the world. It is in us and through us that the Holy Spirit works. We are the remaining flicker of hope against the darkness of evil. Do what you can to make a difference. Pray for God’s intervention. And most importantly, spread the gospel so others can be saved.
People need Jesus!
Remember, God is always at work. Even when we can’t see it, His good plan is unfolding, and we must cling to the promises He has made. We should do what we can to find solutions to the problems in our world, but we must also understand that we cannot change people’s hearts. Only Jesus can do that.
