A New Day Will Dawn

Light is sweet; how pleasant to see a new day dawning. – Ecclesiastes 11:7 NLT

Sometimes the book of Ecclesiastes makes King Solomon seem like a dreary pessimist. But he wasn’t. He was more of a realist who understood that in this broken world there would be heartache, discouragement, and pain. He also recognized that what we focus on makes all the difference. If we focus on the things of this world, the darkness will start to overwhelm us.

I can remember how difficult nights were as a new mom when I would wake up to the sounds of my baby crying. I was so tired, and I felt so alone in the quiet darkness. But when morning came, and the sun shone through the windows, everything felt different. It was a new day and the rest of the world was awake with me. I was no longer alone.

There is something about the middle of the night that gets our minds to play tricks on us. The lies of the enemy are amplified in the darkness. But light is so sweet and the bright morning sun ushers in a new day full of hope and promise.

Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning – Psalm 30:5 ESV

The empty tomb of Christ is the greatest demonstration of joy coming in the morning. I can’t imagine what the nights must have been like for Jesus’ friends after they watched Him die. They must have been full of confusion, despair, loneliness, and fear. They must have laid awake at night wondering how they could go on now that Jesus was gone.

But when the sun rose on Sunday morning, they discovered the empty tomb and the risen Lord.

If you are in a season of life that feels like the middle of a dark and lonely night, do not despair. Morning is coming. A new day will dawn. Joy will break through. Turn your face to Jesus and let His love shine in your life like the bright morning sun.

God’s mercies are always new. He is so faithful!

  1. This is beautiful and so encouraging! It makes me excited to see the sunrise tomorrow morning (even though there’s still daylight where I am lol).

  2. Such a good reminder. Morning always comes! Our trials always end, one way or another. Trust in God’s plan for us.
